While similar X accounts had promoted relatively unknown independent artists before, the uniqueness of Ragbeer’s ad—especially considering her account was private and followed by just 100 people at the time—combined with the undeniable charm of her songs like the catchy “Older Guys,” led to significant streaming gains for the budding social media sensation.
According to Luminate, Ragbeer’s collection of independently released music, comprising one LP, two EPs, and two standalone singles, had received minimal official on-demand streams in the United States during the week of February 16-22. However, in the week immediately following the X post (February 23-29), streaming activity for Ragbeer’s music skyrocketed by an astounding 34,630%, amassing over 80,000 streams. On Spotify, “Mary Whiton Calkins”—a tribute to the early 1900s American philosopher and psychologist known for her research on memories and dreams—emerged as Ragbeer’s most popular track, boasting over 50,000 streams on the platform.
While the sustainability of her newfound fame remains uncertain, Julie Ragbeer’s meteoric rise, sparked by Pop Tingz, stands as yet another testament to the transformative power of the internet.
