Taylor Swift’s “Exile” Surges in Popularity After Swiftie’s Emotional Video Goes Viral

In the span of nearly a year, Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour has stirred a myriad of emotions with its surprise song selections each night. From euphoria among lucky attendees who hear their favorite tunes to heartbreak for those who miss out on special moments, the tour has become a rollercoaster of feelings. Recently, a 20-year-old Australian fan named Madison Blackband added her own unforgettable chapter to this narrative.

During Swift’s performance in Sydney on Feb. 25, Blackband captured a poignant moment on TikTok. The video shows her reacting to the opening notes of the Folklore track “Exile” by collapsing into tears, leaning on her friend for support. The caption poignantly stated, “My reaction to Taylor singing Exile (also known as the song that saved my life).” The raw emotion displayed in the clip struck a chord with viewers, garnering over 10 million views on TikTok and sparking numerous memes reenacting the scene.

In the wake of this viral moment, “Exile” saw a notable increase in streams as fans rushed to experience the song that evoked such intense emotions in Blackband. Prior to the video’s release (Feb. 22-24), the track garnered 1.12 million official on-demand streams in the U.S. However, in the following three days (Feb. 25-27), that number surged to 1.30 million streams, marking a significant 16% increase, according to data from Luminate.

Reflecting on her newfound viral fame, Blackband remains composed, stating, “There’s no point letting it upset me.” She acknowledges her authentic reaction to the song and embraces the impact it has had on others, as evidenced by the overwhelming response to her video.
