Dasha Strikes Gold with the Season’s Second Texas-Inspired Country-Pop Sensation

In the wake of Beyoncé’s monumental country-pop crossover “Texas Hold ‘Em,” the music industry continues to witness a surge of artists riding the same wave. Among them is Dasha, a talented singer/songwriter originally hailing from San Luis Obispo, Calif., who now calls Nashville home. Dasha has been diligently pursuing her dreams in country music, and her recent single “Austin” has emerged as a contender in this vibrant landscape.

Drawing comparisons to Halsey’s “You Should Be Sad” with its honky-tonk flavor, “Austin” bears a striking resemblance to Beyoncé’s chart-topper. As “Texas Hold ‘Em” solidifies its status as one of the year’s defining hits, “Austin” has begun to gain momentum.

The track has found particular success on TikTok, where Dasha boasts a following of nearly 300,000 fans, branding herself as “country-without-the-‘o’.” Spearheading a line dance trend, the singer-songwriter has propelled “Austin” to new heights. According to Luminate data, the song witnessed a staggering 916% surge in official on-demand U.S. streams within a week of Beyoncé’s release. Subsequently, with the release of Dasha’s debut album “What Happens Now?” on February 16, the song continued its ascent, experiencing another 182% increase in streams.

Although the pace has slightly slowed, “Austin” remains on an upward trajectory, with a 32% increase in streams for the week ending February 29, totaling over 3.1 million streams.

As the song gains traction, speculation looms regarding its potential to rival the success of “Texas Hold ‘Em.” While Beyoncé rightfully commands attention, Dasha’s emergence signifies a burgeoning space for diverse talents on the honky-tonk dancefloor of 2024.
