Nigerian musicians Ahmed Ololade, known as Asake, and Ikuforiji Olaitan Abdulrahman, better recognized as Oxlade, once shared a bond that seemed unbreakable. However, recent events have sparked rumors suggesting a growing distance between the two artists.
Previously, their camaraderie was evident in numerous online videos showcasing their close friendship. Whether it was their spontaneous freestyling sessions or heartwarming encounters captured in Berlin, Germany, where their joyous embraces reflected their deep connection, Asake and Oxlade appeared inseparable.
Reflecting on their past, Oxlade reminisced during an interview with Rolling Stone, acknowledging Asake’s pivotal role in his musical journey. Asake, he revealed, was among the first to recognize the potential of one of his songs, predicting its meteoric rise on the international stage.
In his own words, Oxlade shared, “Back then, myself and Asake used to really roll together. He was like ‘Yo, the song is going to go crazy. It’s going to go crazy.’ I was like, ‘Ehh, every song, everybody says it’s going to go crazy.'”
These remarks fueled speculations about a possible strain in their friendship, a suspicion that was later confirmed by Oxlade himself in a subsequent interview with Afrobeats Intelligence. In a candid admission, Oxlade disclosed that he and Asake were no longer as close as they once were.
“Asake used to be my best friend, but… y’know. He’s still my brother, but… the game is the game,” Oxlade revealed, hinting at the complexities within the music industry that might have contributed to their drifting apart.
While their bond may have evolved, Oxlade’s acknowledgment of Asake as a brother underscores a lingering affection despite the changes in their relationship dynamics. As they navigate their respective paths in the music industry, their story serves as a reminder of the shifting nature of friendships amidst fame and ambition.
